BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU LOOK!

There’s a popular quote that says, “Where you look, you tend to go.” Although I was unable to find the original author, the words nevertheless ring true. Take a simple example. If you are riding a bicycle down the road and you focus on a tree that’s on the side of the road, you will run into the tree!

This quote is often used to point out the value of focusing on a goal, but I see another more immediate value. When disturbing and frightening news events get you down or you are in a situation you can’t control; when you are hindered by setbacks and people who don’t seem to have your best interest in mind; when you face unwanted diagnoses, when you bank account balance is nearing zero, what do you do? Where do you look? Where do you focus your attention?

The writer of the book of Chronicles wrote:

We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You (2 Chronicles 20:12b).

This is not a pollyanna “God will fix everything, and we will live happily ever after” fantasy. Focusing on God and His word is the starting point.  It prepares our heart to trust Him so that we can move forward in faith regardless of the outcomes.

More passages to encourage you…
The LORD says, "I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you (Psalm 32:8 NLT).

Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track (Proverbs 3:5ff, The Message).

Have a blessed day and enjoy the ride!
