WAKE UP AND GET DRESSED

This morning, Saturday, I woke up at 7:30 a.m. When I looked at my watch and saw the time, I jumped out of bed. I had planned to meet someone, and I needed to leave my apartment by 8 a.m. to get there on time.

I couldn’t decide what to wear and tried on different outfits. These slacks are too dark and too warm to wear in summer. This blouse makes me feel constricted. This shirt accentuates the more negative aspects of my “non-girlish” figure.  Okay, I’ll stop beating around the bush. It makes me look and feel fat! I compromised and put on the dark slacks and a summer top.  As I gulped down my protein drink, I decided to check my email before heading out the door. As I opened my inbox, it donned on me today was Friday, not Saturday! Thank you, Lord! Your mercies are new every morning!

I regularly get “words for the day” from various ministries. On this particular morning, the message was entitled, “Wake Up and Be Dressed in Light.”* It read in part:

Wake up and step into life. Rouse yourself and step into the new clothes that God has for you. No longer are you called to wear garments of lethargy, disappointment and sluggishness; take them off and throw them away. Stand tall and receive garments of life, energy, strength and purpose.

Considering my early morning indecision about what to wear, this message tripped my spiritual “alarm clock.” Time to put off indecision, lethargy, disappointment, sluggishness, and a host of other self-defeating attitudes that don’t line up with the Word of God. Instead, today I will wear garments of joy that bring glory and honor to God.

What time did you wake up this morning? I pray your day is filled with life, energy, strength and purpose!

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation (Isaiah 61:10a).
