TWO WORLDS - PART 1

Do you ever find yourself living in two worlds; for example, “work life” and “family life”? How to you shift from one to another? Does one world “interact” with the other or are they totally separate?

I have residency in two countries, so the geographical parameters of such an existence is obvious. In the U.S., I live with one of my daughters in a lovely small home built in the mid-1920s.  In Moscow, I live in a new cement high-rise apartment overlooking a forest. In each location, I eat different foods, adjust to a different social environment, and I must make a shift in my expectations. Sometimes I find myself tossed between my “current” lifestyle and the one I’ve just left behind. But I have an anchor…

In His prayer to His Father, Jesus said about His disciples, “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world… As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world” (John 17:14- 19). Even though Jesus said His disciples are not of the world, the fact is that Jesus sent His disciples and, if we are His disciples, He sends us into the world, too.

So…where I live, in the U.S. or Russia or Timbuktu, is not the important thing. The important thing is that I have a relationship with the One who sent me.  This relationship anchors me, sustains me, and helps me navigate the conflicting tides of my two worlds.
