THE SECOND COMING

This year more than any other time, my thoughts during the Christmas season have been on the Second Coming of Jesus. As a matter of fact, watching a worship service online, I heard a pastor preach on the subject, a topic rarely if ever I’ve heard shared from a pulpit. Apparently, I am not the only person whose spirit has been touched to explore this mysterious future event. Maybe it is because of the violence, Coronavirus, and unprecedented chaos throughout the earth or perhaps because I am getting closer to meeting my Maker.

While doing a little research, it was interesting to compare Jesus’ birth with His second coming. Born in humble surroundings, Christ will return in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Some shepherds and a few others witnessed His first coming; all people everywhere at once will witness His second coming. The most noticeable sign of His birth was an unusual star in the heavens. Apostasy, the Gospel preached throughout the earth, tumultuous times, signs in heavens and earthquakes precede His second coming.

How do we prepare for this momentous event? Some of the events related to the Second Coming, such as in Matthew 24, are disturbing. Will I need to hide under a rock or in a cave?   I am not a theologian and I don’t understand the sequence of events, but I take to heart the words from the book of Revelation:

But I come swiftly, so cling tightly to what you have, so that no one may seize

your crown of victory (Rev. 3:14, TPT).

One night as I was praying about these things, this thought came to me: “Wait, watch, and stand firm in faith. I am coming.”  Amen! Come, Lord, Jesus!

May you have a joy-fill Christmas season as your remember the birth of Jesus and reflect on His Second Coming!
